A 2.5D game merging 2D graphics into a 3D engine with hand drawn sprites and Unity.

I always saw a worthy challenge in attempting to merge 2D artwork with the physics of a 3D game engine like Unity. I felt this would be an excellent exercise to flesh out an idea for a lab station/ environment that has been overrun by out of control bacteria or cancerous enemies hellbent on taking over. It was a unique approach to level design that ended up teaching me significantly more about the two design methodologies and helped me to fully understand the differences/ similarities. It also meant doing away with a lot of the built-in Unity benefits of using 2D or 3D in their intended manner and having to find ways to create collisions and layering in a way that worked well in the scene. For example, controlling the render depth of an object as it might pass behind or in front of another and being required to code it based on Z-depth.
