Interactive panoramas may not be the the highest end of technology but they have proven to be reliable, and extremely useful visualizations for design review, client sing-off, materials and equipment review, philanthropy, and many other uses. Panoramas can be rendered or captured via photography with cameras such as the Ricoh Theta. Additionally, LiDAR can capture 360° images if the user collects the RGB of the point cloud, which can be extremely useful for visualizing existing conditions. There’s several software packages and services online to build experiences; however, most of what I work on is confidential and cannot be uploaded to third party servers. Therefore, I typically utilize a completely custom solution utilizing A-Frame. These experiences are great as you can generate a QR code to quickly access them on a mobile device where they can be viewed in portrait mode as a single image and users can look around the image using the device’s gyroscope. Additionally, they are very useful for review on desktop/ laptop where users can click-drag the image to look around.
